Hi,

I would greatly appreciate some insight on my profile. I recently retook the GMAT and scored 720 Q48 V41. Overall, I'm very happy with the score, except for the 78% percentile in quant and a 5 in IR (52nd percentile). I'm aiming for the top 10 and I'm wondering if the IR and quant score will hurt me. I'm quite concerned about my integrated reasoning score.

I've only been out of college for 1 year now, but I'd like to get a general sense of where I'm headed and if I'm on the right track for when I apply ~3 years from now.

GMAT: 720 (Q48, V41, AWA 5.0, IR 5)
Undergraduate: Cornell University
Area of study: Undergraduate business
GPA: 3.9+ (Magna Cum Laude)
Work Experience: Top 20 consulting firm

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

You really shouldn't worry about your IR score. It's a new section and it's unclear what a "good" score even means right now on that section! It's not taken into consideration much yet as they are still just testing/understanding the IR results themselves. So, be happy with your 720 and don't fret about the IR. Of course, given that you're not applying for a couple years, this could change, so I would say keep tabs on how the IR section gets considered over the coming years and make an assessment when you're closer to applying as to whether you need to retake it. For now, no need at all.

Your academic profile is very strong, and a consulting background is great. But I'd say you should start thinking hard about how you're going to differentiate yourself as a candidate. What community leadership, extracurricular leadership or extraordinary life experience can you showcase? Good scores and a consulting background are a dime a dozen - how will you stand out?

Good luck!
Mili
