Baruch Admission

by hkshops » Fri Oct 08, 2010 2:54 pm
i got a 570 on my gmat.
35 verbal and 34 math. 5.5 awa 77%
my math was 38% but my verbal was 73%. i know that my math score may hurt my chances, but i have 6 years of work experience, with great performance, although i am currently laid off. my gpa is around 2.85 but i have a degree in a specialty sciences major, which might not be looked at so badly, since it's a not a business degree. i was wondering if i should play it safe and take my gmat's again to increase my math score. i know that i can improve it, given that i only studied 2 weeks for my gmat. i have submitted my application already but thought i should be proactive and take the exam again within the next two weeks. not sure if it'll make any difference. any advice? thanks so much in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for your post. I understand your frustration with your GMAT score and I can certainly understand why you would want to retake it. However, it is important for you to keep in mind that should you retake the exam, it may not count towards applications you've already submitted. Adcoms want you to apply when you are ready and usually will only consider the score submitted at the time of the application. However, should you find yourself placed on a waitlist, the new score may very well help you become admitted. Whatever you do decide, it might not be a bad idea to retake the exam especially since you seem to feel you can improve your score. This way you'll at least have an improved score for round 2 applications.

Best,

Stacey
