Could I get into HEC Paris?

I'm from India and this is my profile:

1. Class 10 - 8.4 CGPA
2. Class 12 - 68%
3. Bachelors - Eng Literature (Hons) from Delhi University, scored 68% (3.5 GPA)
4. GMAT score - 760
5. 10 months of work experience in a publishing company (MNC)

What are my chances of getting into HEC Paris?

Hi laser,
Well, I wish I had a crystal ball and could predict your exact chances! :) Based on what you've shared...your GPA seems pretty good and your GMAT score is excellent. Well above their minimum (600) and their average (typically 680-690). Also interesting is your English Lit and publishing experience...definitely not typical of most applicants from India so that could be a strength in terms of differentiating your application.

Do you only have 10 months of full time work experience? If so, then I think that's going to be a real concern. I believe HEC Paris requires a minimum of 3 years and they also look for clear evidence of career progression and leadership potential, which would be difficult to prove with only 10 months. They also seek individuals who are very globally minded so that's good you're working for an MNC, but do you have any study / work experience outside India? If so, that could help your chances.

thank you so much for your encouraging reply. I forgot to mention that I am aiming for a masters in management from HEC not an mba. Will my work experience be sufficient for an mim from hec? I have no experience outside of India. In fact, in all honesty, I've never travelled abroad.

Yes, definitely...after I posted my response I started to wonder if you were referring to the MBA or the Master's in Management. For that program, little or no work experience is just fine so you fit that profile much better. The average GMAT is a bit higher, 710, but you're still well above that! Not having experience outside India is fine too, not a dealbreaker, but I think they would still like to see evidence of experience working with diverse teams and collaboration, either at work, at school, or in extracurriculars. Hi Laser,
I've been helping people here in Paris for the last six years and I agree with Kate on pretty much everything. Some other things to keep in mind are:

1) The GMAT keeps people out and your essays get you in. On the surface I think that you have a pretty good shot, but you need to market yourself well. To do so, make sure that you get help from someone who has already been accepted to a top Masters program. I've seen a lot of students who had accomplished great things but didn't do a very good job of selling themselves. You don't want brag of course, but provide specific examples of your achievements.

2) When your writing your essays watch out for the trap of trying to say too many things. It much better to go into detail about a few accomplishments than writing a list of things you've done and not giving much background information.

3) In your essays try to hit on these four areas: teamwork, intelligence, leadership, and maturity (having idea idea of what you want to do).

Please tell me with what score should I target to get hec, essec or escp for MIM?
I have 7.68/10 cgpa equivalent to 76.8% or 4 GPA.......passed in 2018........ NO Work experience except an internship from a factory, which is now closed due to some new governmental rules.
I had been a member of Rotaract Club sponsored by Rotary International for social works (High-school Time)
Won a talent test and got a gold medal in one olympiad talent exam and also earned certificates in many exams at my schooling
Then at my graduation, I had been the head or coordinator or organiser of 6 events
I participated and got 4 certificates in some entrepreneurship-oriented competition at my college
Then I got a certificate in TALL BUILDING STRUCTURES from one of the prestigious institutions of India, INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Then I was the campus ambassador of one of the top management college of India, Indian Institute Of Management, Banglore.

Then I did some online certificate programs from some great universities -- ESSEC (Marketing Analytics), HEC (Leadership- Souvoir Relier), THE WHARTON (Introduction to marketing), University of California (Time management)

please guide me, I am losing much-required confidence due to this one year gap.
Your guidance will be very helpful to usher me toward my goal

Yeah the last thing I am learning french, and now I am at least able to make a few sentences, I can't vouch about fluency unless I live in a French environment...But I am sure I would help, would it?

I, also, want to apply to HEC. Frankly speaking, my extra curricular are weak. My GPA has been close to 4.0 while GMAT is 740. But I never got a chance to build my extra curricular profile e.g. sports, debate etc.

What would be a good way to build an extra curricular profile in a short time?

Your stats are great! While starting activities now can seem forced/manufactured, something would be better than nothing! I would first think about organizations you've been involved with in the past, like your alma mater - can you get involved in a fundraising effort or mentorship? Or any causes/non-profits you've volunteered with or donated to in the past - can you volunteer at an upcoming event? Or even look at voluntary opportunities at work, like helping with training or mentoring or recruiting, depending on what's possible. Last tip would be to think about ways you can formalize/advance any personal interests or hobbies, like if you're a runner, sign up for an upcoming race, or if you're a foodie, sign up for a cooking class. Aside from giving back to others, schools like to see that you have things you're passionate about and you're able to set & achieve personal goals. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the detailed response. I was wondering if there should be a leadership angle to the extracurricular activities e.g. If I cook for my pleasure, it's less about leadership than let's say I have spent time mentoring high school kids.
