"The purpose of government is not to ensure the financial well-being of its citizens, but rather to maintain order."
From your perspective, how accurate is the above statement? Support your position with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading

Answer:
In the above sentence, the author states that the purpose of the government is to maintain the order by working against the irregularities but not to ensure that all people are financially well or satisfied. I agree with this statement due to the reasons i would mention in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, a government is a body of people to create order in the country/state. It is responsible to create opportunities for its people to earn their living. It is responsible to protect the rights of its citizens and to ensure that law and order prevails. However, this doesn't mean that the government is responsible to make sure that every individual in the country is financially well and satisfied. However, It is the responsibility of the citizen to make use of the opportunity that the government provides and earn their living. As an example of this view, we can say that the government is responsible for creating employment opportunities in the country. However, it is not responsible for deciding or regulating the amount of salary for the job.

Secondly, the government is responsible to enact laws and launch programmes that help the citizens to lead a better life. Also, the government is responsible for helping out firms providing employment to the people in difficut situations by providing financial support. An example of this is the bail out package that was given to various companies ( like General Motors etc.) during the recession time. However, it is also the responsibility of the company to make use of this oppturtunity and to try and recover of the situation.

Thirdly, the governement is responsible for making sure that the policies that it frames reaches to the poor. However, this doesnt mean to say that the people make the right use of the money given to them for their future so that they become financially able.

Summing up, it is right to state that the governement is responsible to maintain order in the country and to prevent injustice but not responsible to ensure financial well being of its citizens.
