y = mx + b
(i) y = 3bx + b. You need a point on the line, or concrete information about either the slope or the y-intercept to do anything here.
(i) is insufficient.
(ii) x-intercept means that when y=0, x = -1/3. so 0= (-1/3)m + b. One equation with two unknowns.
(ii) is insufficient.
(i) and (ii) substitute our values of x and y from (ii) into our equation from (i) looks promising since have two unknowns with two pieces of information:
0 = 3b(-1/3) + b
0 = -b + b
0 = 0
(i) and (ii) are insufficient. Correct answer is E.
