absolute value inequalities

by Mike@Magoosh » Thu Oct 24, 2013 2:54 pm
Is |x - 6| > 2?
Statement #1: |x - 4| > 3
Statement #2: |x - 8| > 1

This question appears quite challenging it, but solving it should not take long. For a discussion of what you can and can't do with inequalities, as well as a complete explanation to this question, see:

qustion says on number line is x>8 or x<4
1. says x>7 or x<1 insufficent, x could be 7.5
2. says x>9 or x<7 insufficent
combining we get x>9 or x<1
