DS Question

by Bruin05 » Sat Sep 26, 2009 3:44 pm
If p is a positive integer, what is the value of p?

(1) p/4 is a prime number.

(2) p is divisible by 3.

I can eliminate statements (1) and (2) as being independently sufficient. I can work through the problem to get (OA) C.

Any direction is appreciated.

As you said, A and B can be eliminated.

If you take statement (2), then p=3k, where k is an integer.

From Statement (1), p/4 = prime
=> 3k/4 = prime
=> k = 4*prime/3

So if 4*prime/3 is an integer, then the prime number has to be 3 and nothing else.

So both statements together are sufficient.
