GMAT Score:750
Hello everybody,

I am a student from Germany currently finishing my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am attending the second best B-school in Germany and in the top 15%, maybe top 10% of my class. Unfortunately here in Germany we do not have a grading scale that translates to GPA, so I cant really give you any more information than that.

I am taking the GMAT next week and have been scoring between 740 and 770 on various tests during my preparation (the official GMAC Cats, as well as MGMAT tests) So my expectations are that I will do quite well on the real deal. Now, as I read that the "best" B-schools have GMAT averages of 730 max, I would assume that my GMAT score will not hinder, but rather help me getting in those schools. However, I do not have years of work experience (I am 22 years old) -- the only things I can come up with are a few internships (2-3 months each) at consultancies and major industrial companies.

I have spent a year in the United States during high school ( I am an ASSIST scholar ) and have also spent half a year in Norway during college (as an ERASMUS scholar). The idea of returning to the US for a masters degree in management sounds very attractive to me, however I do not wanna go if I don't get into a top school. The thing is that here in Europe id have decent chances of getting into the the top schools for management and I think that a top notch european management education beats that of some second tier US school any day.

So I guess what the question comes down to is: Are there any management master (not necessarily MBA) programs of top notch american B-schools that I am be eligible to apply for with just a Bsc. title and no work experience?

Thank you so much for your time ! :)

Cheers,

Sven

Sven:

Ich bin stolz auf euch, daB Sie zu b-school interresiert sind! Ich hab es gern daB Sie so jung sind, und haben so viel "klug." Oh to heck with it, it's been too long since I took my German classes. Anyway, I would not be discouraged necessarily by your lack of experience. While it is a common perception that top schools "require" heavy duty experience, every year they let in a few folks who are exceptional and yet have not been working professionally yet. If you come in with a super GMAT score (above 750) and can demonstrate substantial leadership and maturity, you could feasibly get the attention of some top programs, particularly those who have a track record of letting some folks in. If you think about it, these schools would be contradicting their "diversification" mantras if they only let in 30 year old businessmen. They highly value people who will add to the student population, so approach from the angle that you hail from a fairly under-represented country and then pull out the stops on telling stories of your experience that will impress them with your teamwork, leadership, or service thus far. Ein Prosit! good luck!
