Hi ,

I am planning to apply for MBA for 2010 fall session.
I have few colleges in mind where im planning to apply.
Can you please suggest after evaluating my profile, what are my chances of getting into some decent university and what are the chances of getting aid.

My profile is :

Education :
I have a gamt score of 710 (49, 39).AWA 5.. (Do you think i should try gmat once again )
I did my engineering from RV college Bangalore in E&C and have an aggr of 78 %.
I have around 88 and 92 % in 10 and 12th, if it matters.

Work ex:
I am working with top most American investment bank in bangalore as an analyst on technology side. By next year i would have 3 years work ex. i have been to NY on work for 4 months.
I have given a NSE certification on finance .

Extra curricular & volunteering :
I have represented my state in National Triathlon CHampionship in 1998.It was long back but but it was an imjportant event in my life.
I have won few competitions in swimming and other sports during school.
In college i have been involved with organising events and stuff like national service schemes , etc.

I have been actively involved with an NGO here since last one year and am still working for it.

I know its very difficult for anyone to comment with such little detail but would be great if you can suggest some good universities where its possible for me to get thru and where i can look for aid.

On a separate note if i need to take kaplan services, how am i suppose to go for it ?

Thanks a lot..

Well...it sounds like you have great work experience, a very good GMAT, and some cool life experience. So...I would say that your chances are solid (as solid as anybody's can be: there is always a lottery element) at all but the top three or four of the top twenty schools.

So...I would say, check the post I am about to post as a "sticky post" about what to look for when choosing a school.

I don't mean to ignore your question but I simply cannot do the hard work of sifting through complex trade offs and priorities for you. I can point you in the direction of what those trade offs and priorities are but I can't make those decisions for you.
Keep me in the loop about your thinking and let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Paxton,

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I would look out for 'sticky post' message on the forum.
The universities i am looking at are as follows.
What do you think about my chances of getting into these and chances of getting aid : in these

1. Cornell
2. Duke
3. Mccomb
4. Kelley
5. Emoree
6. UNC Kenan Flagler
7. Rochester Simon.
8. Olin Washington

It would be great if you can give your views on these universities.

Thanks a lot.

I think you have a shot at all of those. The next step is to do your research, choose which of those you want to apply to, and start thinking through your applications.

If you want to hire a consultant, you probably want to have somebody lined up by mid to late August.

You're at the beginning of an exciting journey...
Keep me in the loop about your thinking and let me know if you have any more questions.
