Kris-P cereal is 10% sugar by weight, whereas healthier but less delicious
Bran-D cereal is 2% sugar by weight. To make a delicious and
healthy mixture that Is 4% sugar, what should be the ratio of Kris-P
cereal to Bran-D cereal, by weight?

in this type of mixture problem, do i have to follow grid solution always.....or is there any other shortcut ??

Let's take weight of cereal KP is k and that of BD is b as used in the mixture.

k -> 0.1k sugar
b -> 0.02b sugar

On mixing these 2 we get k+b mixture with 0.1k+0.02b sugar

(0.1k+0.02b)/(k+b) = 0.04

k/b = 1/3

Use Alligation Technique :

The proportion needed of each starting percentage is the positive difference between the other 2 percentages.

Wt (10%) = 4-2 = 2

Wt( 2%) = 10-4= 6

Kris p/ Bran D = 2/6 =1/3.

Hope it helps. Please post the OA & source.

have you tried alligation approach

|4-2|=2 assigned to Kris-P cereal
|4-10|=6 assigned to Bran-D cereal
2+6=8; (weight of new mixture/8)*2 gives Kris-P cereal weight and (weight of new mixture/8)*6 gives Bran-D cereal
(2W/8) : (6W/8) = 2W/8 * 8/6W = 1/3
