Taking math before applying

Hello--

I am thinking of applying next fall (2012) but don't have any college math classes worth mentioning on my college resume (one bad grade in a theoretical class). I'm thinking I should take a math class sometime soon, and am trying to figure out if I should take multivariable calc (I would need to review my BC calc in order to do so) or if I should take a statistics course--I could see arguments either way. I'm pretty confident in my ability to get a good grade either way, so it really is just a question of which would be better to demonstrate that I'm not 100% poet.

Hey J. Dove -- either of those would help your profile significantly in the application process. We've heard some bschool adm ppl specify that they like to see a calc class. A few schools actually have a stats class as a pre-matriculation requirement (Haas EWMBA does) but this is somewhat unusual. Either of these classes would go far in demonstrating to the adcom that you're more than a poet!!!!

Hope this helps -- and oh yeah, it's totally awesome to see that you're planning this far in advance!! You should be in great shape by the time next year's Rd 1 rolls around!!!

Either are good. Take both if you can. The idea is to show that you are making headway yourself on what might not be your strong point.

It's a great thing that you are deciding to take these classes. Either of the classes could help you establish yourself as more than a poet.
