How do I improve from 690 to 740?

by nikhilguptak » Sun Dec 06, 2009 1:16 am
Hi Everyone,

I recently gave my GMAT and scored a 690 ( Quant:51 and verbal :30).
However, I feel I can easily improve on my verbal part. Out of the 6 mocks( 4 MGMAT, 2 powerprep ) I wrote, I scored a 36 on the four MGMAT tests and 34 on the two powerprep tests.

My sources till now:

1. OG 12, OG 10( for SC)
2. MGMAT SC book
3. a few paper tests.

Please help me improve my verbal score

Check your MGMAT assessment---you will find out the topics wherein you are not performing upto the mark...

be very specific...dont say i am weak in SC...find out which topics bug you in SC...is it parallelism, comparisons or pronouns

in CR which type of questions do you miss and do the same for RC...usually in RC tone and inference type questions give hard time...

your quant is aweome..add few more points to verbal and you can easily surpass 750...

I improved in verbal from 18 in first mock to 41 on real thing....all i did was finding out my weaknesses and plugging in the loopholes...

Hi nikhilguptak,

Congrats! You have scored well...

I'm also sailing in the same boat. Finding really hard to shoot my scores in Verbal.. As 2010gmat mentioned, I started analyzing the questions and trying to improvise them.

Now enjoy and be happy for the score :-)

Regards,
Viju

Thanks everyone for replying..

To be more specific, I a m facing trouble in

1. SC - Verb Tense, Meaning and Concision
2. CR - Reasoning and Application
3. RC - Inference

Do you suggest any books for CR/ SC ? Also do i need to go through any grammar book for SC?
