Greek theology : need help .

by 786 » Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:51 am
In Greek theology the supreme being was Esaugetu Emissee (Master of Breath), who dwelt in an upper realm in which the sky was the floor, and who had the power to give and to take away the breath of life.

A.in which the sky was the floor, and who had the power to give and to take
B.where the sky was the floor, having the power to give and to take
C.whose floor was the sky, and who has the power of giving and of taking
D.in which the sky was the floor, with the power of giving and taking
E.whose floor was the sky, having the power to give and take

My question :
1) In Greek theology the supreme being was Esaugetu Emissee (Master of Breath), who X and who Y .
In Greek theology the supreme being was Esaugetu Emissee (Master of Breath), who X , and who Y .

Which one is correct . I want to know what is the significance of comma before , and who .
I strongly think comma is not needed .

2) this is a general question:
in option B , can the modifier 'having the power to give and to take' jump over the
preeceding who modifier and modify Esaugetu Emissee ?
same question for the 'with' modifier in option D .

A.in which the sky was the floor, and who had the power to give and to take
B.where the sky was the floor, having the power to give and to take ---- usage of where is wrong as where is used as a pronoun for a place
C.whose floor was the sky, and who has the power of giving and of taking
D.in which the sky was the floor, with the power of giving and taking ---- with here changes the intended meaning of the sentence as it seems to pretend that sky was having power of giving and taking
E.whose floor was the sky, having the power to give and take

A is correct

who refers to Esaugetu Emissee

whose is a possessive pronoun

the modifier 'having the power to take..' is incorrectly modifying floor

generally ,
If you have comma + and construction ; you have an independent clause after comma + and
or what follows comma + and is the last element of a list .

I dont think it is the case here .

Isn't the "power to give and to take" in the option A awkward?
Thanks,

Yup I also think that the club is for healthy discussions rather than posting only the answers.......because the doubts can only get cleared through discussions......
