Humans have been damaging the environment for centuries by overcutting trees and farming too intensively, and though some protective measures, like the establishment of national forests and wildlife sanctuaries, having been taken decades ago, great increases in population and in the intensity of industrialization are causing a worldwide ecological crisis.

Please, explain why E is wrong. the structure in E is not wrong. WE do not need the contrast here. The meaning can be a contrast in B or a context in E.

why E is wrong?

IMO We need to show a contrast here because in E in simple words the second part says...
with some protective measures,....,....,great population increases and in the intensity of industrialization are causing some x,some y.
this conveys wrong meaning.

And also parallel issue
it should be...
great increases
in population
and in the intensity of industrialization
