Dear kncs,

If you score as expected on the GMAT (700+), then you will be competitive for your target schools. However, you will be around average in terms of GMAT, GPA and work experience relative to other applicants with similar education and professional experience. As such, your essays, recommendations and interviews will play a key role in whether you can distinguish yourself from the competition to be offered a seat in the class. I think your entrepreneurial activities are an advantage in this regard, so I would encourage you to write about these experiences in your application. Finally, you are targeting the most selective schools, so you might think about adding in at least one safety school to the mix; perhaps a school in the 15-30 range of the rankings?

Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

I had this question come up earlier today as well as I looked on the NYU website. From your experience, can you tell me how vital the verbal section is?

I ask because a couple of years ago, my professor tried persuading me to go to a MS in Financial Engineering program. He recommended I get a high quant score and at least a 4.5/6 on the writing; didn't care about the verbal. I did just that, but decided against the program as I accepted a full-time job.

In your opinion, would it be worth sending the GRE scores to NYU? I just picked up some GMAT books, so I am undecided on whether to invest the studying time for it if what the adcoms care mostly about are the quantitative score.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Milan
