Profile Evaluation: NYU Stern Part-Time

by lilmaz » Fri Aug 19, 2011 1:15 pm
I am planning on applying to the Stern part-time program (Saturdays) for Fall 2012 admission. I would really appreciate it if you would evaluate my profile. Thank you!

Female, US Citizen,
NYC Resident
Will be 27 in Fall 2012
GMAT: 700, Q43, V42
Bachelor of Fine Arts: GPA 3.97
Bachelor of Science: GPA 3.89

I've worked as an banking assistant in Investment Banking for the last 4 years, and this year was promoted to data specialist. My responsibilities include managing the team pipeline, creating projects, preparing presentations to senior management regarding team status (presented to head of IBD), tracking revenue to our team, etc. I also volunteer with City Harvest and a mentor program. I want to pursue my MBA in order to head back to the world of fine art (hence my BFA) and work in finance for a gallery, museum, or hedge fund with an art-based strategy. I will need to attend on Saturday because my work week is generally +50 hours. Do you think I have a reasonable shot at admission? Thank you!

Dear lilmaz,

I do think you have a reasonable shot at admission to NYU's Langone program. The key is to present your career goals effectively and realistically for you. You should be ready to articulate how you plan to actualize your post-MBA goal, including having the names of some employers you are targeting for future employment. There is quite a difference between working for a gallery/museum and working for a hedge fund, so you might want to consider how to frame those two avenues to your future path.

Good luck,
Lisa
