hi,
you should post the question more clearly. The nth term is n+[2^(n-1)]. The way you posted it, it could be interpreted in more than one ways.
So, now the sixth term is: 6+2^(6-1) = 6 + 2^(5) = 6+32= 38.
And the fifth term is: 5+2^(5-1) = 5 +2^(4) = 5+16 = 21.
Therefore, the difference is 38-21 = 17. Voila!
