Hi Stacy,

I am new member of this forum. I read a lot about your replies in this forum and have faith that you can help me .I have something in my mind which is troubling me for a long time and the question is which type of B-School is most appropriate for me. In selecting the university, I am not confused about the major (I carry 2-3 yrs work- exp in IT and want to make my career in IT consulting). I am passed out from Indian Institute of Technology (among top 5 colleges in India with good world recognition) and am at a very good position in IT field in India right now (frankly speaking in terms of salary and short term future).
My concern is that should I go for top 10 B schools and invest around $100k for MBA (as I am not strong financially) or should I consider B schools of Europe/Australia/UK/Singapore which may have less tuition fee and lower average salary as compared to that of top 10 universities? I went through one post in this mail that regional MBA should be considered only if I plan to work in the same country. I agree with this but need your suggestion and guidance (as I am very much confused) that considering my current situation as I mentioned above which type of colleges should I consider? What I think is that if I go for colleges with lower fees and decent reputation and faculty, even if I don't get high salary, I wont feel great burden to pay back the small loan I have been taken.

I know its a long post but it was needed to explain my situation. Thanks in advance for help.

Dear vaibhav.iit2002,

It all depends on what makes the most sense for you. If you know you want to work in India after you get your MBA, then you should consider options closer to home that will have strong reputations in India. If you aspire to work in the EU, then you should consider schools in Europe. It is better to evaluate schools based on what you want from your experience (curriculum, career opportunities, geography) than cost. Once you have identified the best programs for what you want in terms of education and career, then you can determine which programs are worth their price tag to you.

Best of luck,
Lisa
