Need Help Understanding Odds of Top 10

I have a 700 GMAT score. A 3.8 GPA from an average public university.

Problem is my quant score is weak (60th percentile - 41) and I don't have a lot of quant classes in my background. Also I don't have much in the way of extracurriculars. I'm 28, a good 3 or 4 years of experience in the field of Marketing Analytics.

I thought perhaps with a good 700 score I'd have a decent shot at a Harvard or Yale but it looks like maybe I was wrong. Should I even bother applying to one of those schools or should I just go to a local university here? I hate to waste a good score and go to an average school. :(

Thanks for your note. In general, your 3.8 gpa and your 700 GMAT score will be competitive for top business schools. Having said this, the adcom will be concerned about your 60% Quant score and your lack of quant classes in college. In order to demonstrate to the adcom that you can handle the Quant classes in business school, you either need to retake the GMAT and get 80+% on the Quant portion of the test or you need to take 1-2 quant oriented business courses (calculus, statistics, accounting, economics).

As long as you start one of these courses by the time you submit your application, you can mention in your application that you are taking the class. Just be prepared to send in your midterm and final grades when you have completed the class.
