B)had as their uniting ideal
C)united each other with
D)united behind
E)were united with
Is there am idiom here?
THE COMPOSERS WERE UNITED BY XX.
It appears XX UNITED the composers - this may or may not be the intended meaning. Lets see the options:
A - THEIR HOLDING (what is THEIR HOLDLING...do not find any mention of holding before; what does THEIR HOLDING do in the prep phrase "their holding an ideal of a national music based on folk melodies and themes"? what role does THEIR HOLDING and AN IDEAL play in the phrase....are they both nouns? If yes, why two nouns placed side-by-side without any connector)
B - AS used to describe a phrase; This changes the meaning "THE COMPOSERS HAD AS THEIR UNITING IDEAL..". Original sentence says "the composers were united by XX. Is the meaning same?
C/E - drop for using WITH (CHANGES THE MEANING JUST AS IN B). Moreover, EACH OTHER is not correct when we are talking about MORE THEN 2 COMPOSERS.
IMO D - note that ITS NOT A FRAGMENT "UNITED" IS A VERB.
