Do I have a chance?

by LouieTiger » Tue Feb 26, 2008 4:03 pm
LSU Engineering Degree 2.7 overall GPA
GMAT 560

U of Houston night/professional MBA.

2 wonderful letters of recommendation - one from a notable business owner and the other from a prominent client in Houston.

7 years Project Management (leading 30+ subcontractors per project and working with Owners, Architects, Engineers, City of Houston, etc.) experience on Commercial Construction in Houston. Projects range in size from $2mm to $32mm, with an increasing project size over the last few years.

One last question - my employer hires a Corporate Consultanting Firm to perform a Psychological Study (personality profile from PhD Psych) for all new hires. I believe mine is VERY positive and reflects many of the traits that I believe schools look for. Should I include it in my packet? U of H says to submit anything you think will help you.

If I'm 'borderline' what GMAT score should I try for?

Thanks,

Marc

Dear Marc:

With regards to the GMAT, try to find the mid-50% range for the evening program. If it is not on the Bauer website, then try mba.com. If your score is within that range, you should feel more comfortable with the current score. Of course, it can never hurt to raise your score above a 600.

As for the psych profile, I don't know that it will really help your application. It would depend on the dimensions in the profile and how that would relate to the MBA program. I tend to err on the conservative side and would not include it. But if you feel it will help make your case more compelling as a future business leader or the like, then it might be worth including with your application. Frankly, I think your work experience sounds strong and suggest a third letter of recommendation from a client (but no more than one extra or it will look like you are compensating for something  ).

Good luck!
Lisa
