Several means:
sev·er·al
"‚ "‚[sev-er-uhl, sev-ruhl] Show IPA
adjective
1.
being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind: several ways of doing it.
Yet the passage clearly states "weeks" only. Meaning it could be 2 weeks, and hence NOT several. Clearly this is not something the GMAT would test though right?

Down to C and B. Chose B
A)one word wrong: passage doesnt say substances were "simple"
B)supported. says able to create "13 to 20 amino acids"
C)don't see where actual completion of experiment was mentioned
D)"Cytosine and uracil" these terms not mentioned in section.
E)Contradict: testing if life could occur without "protien enzymes"
I just read answer, I see why B is wrong. Overlooked in "further experimentation..."

selected option C.
all other options are incorect as already explained -
A- RNA was not fabricated but Protein / amino acids were the products.
B - this is mentioned later in para, and after this exact passage- hence wrong
D- not supported anywhere
E - not supported anywhere

(B) is correct as 13 amino acids were synthesized.
(C) is also correct as the experiment took more than 1 week to complete
I am still not convinced to strike off (B) instead of (C).
Please help.

Reason why answer is not A
A)RNA was fabricated out of simple prebiotic substances.
The RNA theory was then generally
30 accepted by most biologists, but the
question remained: how could RNA
exist without its requisite precursors,
cytosine and uracil? This problem now
appears to have been solved, again by
35 Dr. Miller. He postulates that both
substances could have been produced
in the prebiotic ocean through a process...
A new theory came in picture to prove that RNA was fabricated out of simple prebiotic substances. So the experiment used prebiotic substances.
B)More than one dozen significant amino acids were synthesized.
Subsequent Experiments says so
C)The experiment took several weeks to complete.
Correct. It just says several weeks rather than a small time or long time.
D)Cytosine and uracil formed in the sealed beaker.
See the part of passage (from response of A))
E)The experiment was conducted in a flask filled with protein enzymes.
No.
