Types of RC Structures?

by piyushdabomb » Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:59 pm
Hey,

I'm trying to get a sense for the types of RC passages that exist out there. I'm not talking about the content within the passage, but the 'framework' that exists for passages.

For example, one framework the author might employ is to introduce a claim, provide the supporting evidence, and finally conclude his main point. Another framework the author might employ is the definition of a process, the pros/cons of the process or even low level detail of that process, followed by the impact of the process to to something, and finally conclusion(s) to support the premise.

I know there are a myriad frameworks out there, but are there generic buckets of frameworks I can keep in mind when working through these RC passages?

Even when I read HBR, FT, and SciAm, I can't structure the topics 'cleanly'. I can see a few frameworks the author uses to organize his or her thoughts, but I can't see them all. Does this come from more reading?

Sincerely,

Piyush A.
