The first five lines of second para address the point in (C).

Thanks for your response.

However I am still not sure how the highlighted text is related to 2nd para. Can you please elaborate?

Also, how to tackle such questions?

Dear rookiez, honestly speaking, I wouldn't have chosen (C) in the test. Prolly, a better test taker can answer your question.

Rookiez!

I think the answer is C because that's the only answer choice which is vaguely related to the question.
A- Passage doesn’t support this answer; on the contrary women’s contribution was vital for the union’s strength in 1940s.
B- Women might have been marginalized because of ‘gender ideology’ not the other way around.
C- Might have caused that. So, possible answer choice.
D- It’s totally opposite of that.
E- It’s not mentioned in the passage.

So, we are left with C only.

I was between B & C, I chose B.

In reading, the "gender ideology" was more related to women's ISSUES, not women themselves.

[edit] Also caught myself NOT reading the answers fully, maybe that's why I get these questions wrong.
