Two quick questions

by timedout » Fri Dec 26, 2008 5:47 am
(please check post #3 for an SOS on verbal!!)

guys,

two questions..

1. gave my first gmat prep test yesterday. scored a 690, BUT (yeah always a big but ).. i had 18 wrong in quant (incl missing the last Q). still scored a 47 on it. i started of very well and my whole paper seemed one tough Q after the other. still, 47, after 18 wrongs!! possible?
speed was a major issue, had like 12 min for last 10 questions.

2. to resched or no to resched: have my exam sched for monday, the 29th. i started preparations only 3 weeks ago. and i feel i can boost my score by 20/30 points in a week or so. my worry is, everyone would feel the same. so should i take the risk of rescheduling (not only does it mean another week off from work, but also the whole fees again). cant make up my mind.

Yes, it's possible to get a lot of questions wrong and still score well. As I'm sure you know by now, your score is determined primarily by the difficulty of the questions you get right, not the raw number.

As for rescheduling, GMAT Prep tests are pretty accurate, so if you'd be happy with something between 650 and 720 (remember, there is a +/- 30 point margin of error), you should probably just go ahead and take it. One more week of prep probably won't make a huge difference.

hey Jim, thanks for the earlier reply. i did postpone the date its on the 8th now.

Status now - my quant is touching 49/50.

with verbal, its around the 37-39 point mark

(these scores are with ref to my mGmat cats.)

Verbal -

RC is not an issue. But the tough SC/CRs still are

on my CR/ SC: -
- i am generally getting the 700-800 CRs wrong and everythhing below ok.
- With SC, the same.

i scored 39 on my last verbal section. and i know a 42+ (with my 49 in quant) will ensure my target is achieved.

So for the last 5 days.. if i had to read 1/2 book/ solve one set at my level of verbal.. what would it be.

any and all tips welcomed.
