After many years of feeling separated by a great divide, the doctor now finds himself besides the lawyer, working with one another against HMOs and big tobacco.

1)besides the lawyer, working with one another
2)besides the lawyer, working with each other
3)beside the lawyer, working with each other
4)beside the lawyer, working with him
5)beside the lawyer, working with one another

OA D

I made the mistake of thinking beside is plural and besides is singular!
Also, is One another better to use or Each Other. What is the difference between the two?

Exactly, when I was attempting to answer the question, I knew beside was right. But was confused with singular/plural version of it. Anyways, from your note below, when I confirmed it, then picked D as my choice. :)

1)besides the lawyer, working with one another
2)besides the lawyer, working with each other
3)beside the lawyer, working with each other This form of sentence is used when a situation is described from a third person's point of view.
4)beside the lawyer, working with him - Since the sentence is written from doctor's point of view direct notation to lawyer, using him, seems appropriate.
5)beside the lawyer, working with one another - one another is used when there are three or more people.

Hope it helps.

Pranay
