help required on quadratic eqn

by vaivish » Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:38 am
While solving the quadratic equation ax2+bx+c=0,one person had taken wrong value of a and got the roots as (1,7) and the other person had taken wrong value of c and got the roots as (6,2). What are the actual roots of the equation?

I want to know the method to solve this question.

This question is probably posted wrongly but still I will give you the basic idea.

if 1 and 7 are the two results => (x-7)(x-1) = 0

you simplify this and take out the value c

similarly for 6 and 2 => (x-6)(x-2) = 0

you simplify this and take out the values of a

Let me know if you have any doubts.
