How many hours are there between x minutes past 12 noon and 8:10 p.m. of the same day, where x < 60?
(A) (490 - x)/60
(B) (480 - x)/60
(C) (470 - x)/60
(D) (460 - x)/60
(E) 60 (60 - x + 7)

The answer should be A.

I did the problem algebraically.

60-x+10 or 70-x is the total number of minutes. This includes the number of minutes needed from the current time to get to 1:00 PM added onto the 10 minutes from 8:10 PM.

We now how 7 hours left.

7 hours=60*7=420 minutes

70-x+420/(60)=(490-x)/(60) hours
