XY Plane

I was looking for some questions on net and found this one:

In the xy-plane, line l passes through the origin and is perpendicular to the line4x+y=k,?

The explanation has one of the points that mentions:

When a line passes through origin, the constant K will be 0.

Can someone explain this.

It passes through the origin which is the point (0, 0).

So plug in into the equation:

4x + y = k
4(0) + 0 = k
so we get k = 0

Hope that helps.
