Hi
I wrote the following essay and need some help from experts here in evaulating the same. I have an exam this Saturday, appreciate help in evaluating it.
Argument: Art and Music therapy is known to help healing process of patients. However doctors prescribe expensive and risky medical treatments with serious side effects. This causes a lot of burden of health care costs on the patients instead doctors should opt for musical therapy (not exact words but this is pretty much the statement)
-- My response ---
The argument states that art and music have healing powers on human beings thus it is logical for doctors to prescribe art and music therapy thereby lessening the burden of expensive medicare on the patients. It is a major flaw to assume that art and music by themselves can cure physical or mental illness. The following points derived from the analysis of this argument will also suggest the same.
Firstly, art and music, by themselves do not possess the ability to cure illness. Ofcourse we cannot deny that art or music help or aid the healing process which is primarily driven by drug treatments or prcoedures. Doctors prescribe the primiliminary medication in the form of surgical procedures, medicine treatments or prolonged exposure to certain drugs. In this process, in order to relax the patient can opt to listento music or get involved in arts, which will definitely help the healing.
It is incorrect to assertively state that art or music is sufficient enough to initiate the healing.
Secondly, doctors are knowledgeable of what is the best treatment for a iven illness. They provide the best option to the patient depending on the conditions. At times, it does seem that the treatment options by themselves may be expensive compared to one another. However, it does not become a reason to chose art or music as the only option for the healing the patient.
Doctors can choose a low cost treatment option thereby reducing the burden of health care cost on the patients.
Finally, it is well known that every kind of medication can cause some amount of side effects on patients depending on the physical composition of the resptive patients body. Evidentally that does not approve of the fact that art and music therapy will be the next best alternative.
Doctors can indeed select a low cost and less riskier medical treatment thereby allowing the patients to better manage their helath care costs. On the other hand, if the argument had stated that using art and music therapy as one of additional tools in the healing process would have made it more lofical.
