is it ok to use pronouns to refer to the author?

Hi,
I am not sure whether it is ok to use 'his' to refer to an author. If it is ok to do so, is it also necessary to use 'his/her' instead of just 'his' so that I wont be irritating women evaluators?

I am more intutive than conceptual. Still I like the name because I used it to win numerous "counter-strike" battles :)

I don't think there's any strong reason not to use pronouns to refer to the author, but I'd use them sparingly, in order to maintain clarity and tone. And I would also recommend using "his or her," because while most readers probably wouldn't care one way or the other, you're right that it's not worth taking the chance.
