Here is my profile:
college: BA Econ 3.25 (avg canadian university)
law school (in progress): 3.2 GPA (top 25 American LS)
GMAT: 740 / 6.0 (Verbal was 97th percentile, Q was around 79th, I think)
Work Experience:
1 year as licensed sales assistant at brokerage in Canada for high net worth retail investors. Took and passed 4 securities exams (CSC, CPH, DFC, OLC). Also passed CFA L1.
Internships (all in law school):
- 1 summer at state public defender's office working on criminal appeal cases
- 1 summer doing research for prof / working at small firm
Volunteer/ECs:
- 1 day a week doing habitat for humanity 1 summer
- two sports on intercollegiate club teams (not varsity, but competitive inter-school teams)
I am considering working for a few years before going for the MBA, but I would prefer to start in 2011, so I'll probably send off a few applications this fall.
Right now, I am looking at the following schools:
Reach: UVA, Duke and maybe one of: Yale, Stern, Ross, UCLA
Slight Reach/Target: Cornell, Oxford, Carnegie-Mellon
Target/Safety: Emory, Georgetown
I'm most interested in Investment Management, Equity research, and Management/Strategy Consulting. Please advise on my chances at the schools listed, and whether the lack of WE will be too much to overcome. I've heard Emory throws around a lot of money for high GMATs; are there any other schools ranked outside the top 15, but within the top 30 or so US schools who might also be worth applying to if I'm looking to get scholarship money? I probably would not attend a school ranked lower than Cornell/CMU/UVA without significant scholarship money. Advice appreciated.
