Verbal score lower than GMATPrep

Hi,

I got a V36 on my Official GMAT test, while on all my previous GMAT Prep tests (2 Original and 2 cancelled and retaken) - my lowest scaled Verbal score was 40, with about 6-8 questions wrong. Each split into RC, CR and SC. So am surprized at the drop.

I am trying to find some solid study material besides OG that will help me push this score higher when I retake the test.

Any suggestions?

Hey Bhattu,

For my verbal prep I used ManhattanGMAT Sentence Correction guide, The Official Guide, and gmatfix verbal flashcards.

1) If you don't already have it, consider getting the ManhattanGMAT SC guide and go through its lessons.

2) Get the gmatfix verbal flashcards (you can evaluate some for free at www.gmatfix.com/flashcards_verbal.shtml); these cards are broken down into SC subtopics, with each topic giving you loads of examples and pinpointed lessons on how the topic is tested on the GMAT

3) Once you can go through the flashcards for a particular topic without error, use the Manhattan guide to find the specific questions in the OG that test the topic you're studying. Practice those questions and study the explanations carefully.

For Critical Reasoning, I've heard good things about PowerScore's Critical Reasoning Bible, but I have not used it myself. https://www.amazon.com/PowerScore-GMAT-C ... 0972129634

I wonder if you are scoring lower because the environment you are writing the Prep Test in is different from the real thing. Are you doing the practise tests after spending and hour on two essays and 75 minutes of the Quant? If not, I would recommend doing so to best mimic the feel and to develop the endurance you will need. Also remember to take advantage of the break time to stretch, drink a big of water, and maybe have a little snack.

Were you nervous at the actual test centre? If you were, I would recommend not being nervous (ok, you can't really control it but try

). You will probably be more comfortable as you have already written it once.

Unfortunately the GMAT Prep questions will start to repeat themselves (from what I have read from other people on the boards) so to get an accurate analysis you'll need to assess yourself with a different CAT.
