What is the greatest value of X?

1) x is an integer
2) 6<x<8

I don't understand why statement 2 is not sufficient. can someone explain why x has to be an integer to answer the question? thx

I'll answer your question with a statement and a question

If statement 2 is sufficient, then it MUST provide enough information to definitively determine the value of x.
So, if 6 < x < 8, what is the greatest possible value of x?

7,9...or 7,8 or anything not round between 6 and 8....I got it. thx

As soon as one says x equals 7.9 OR 7.8, it becomes clear that the statement is not sufficient

In that other thread, I noted that this question tests a somewhat esoteric concept that the GMAT would never test.
