In these type of sentences always check the verb.
Here it is "Were".

so,

....More babies were (....) than (....).

to link then you have to use born in both the spaces.

...more babies were born to women over the age of thirty thanwere born to women under the age of 30

it=the age of 30
were born to women --->can be ellipsed.

More babies were born to women over the age of thirty than <women> under it(age of thirty)
