Advice please GMAT in 1 week

by dannya » Wed Apr 03, 2013 8:37 am
Brent- I used the 60 day study guide as a backbone to learning all of the fundamentals and I have to say that it is a very solid program. I lost track towards the end of the program due to some personal issues that I had to attend to. However, I have been back on track and I'm scheduled to take the GMAT on Thursday 4/11.

My question to you is regarding the focus of the last week of exam prep. I want to make sure that I am using these last few days in the most efficient way possible. In terms of Practice CAT's, I've taken GMAT Prep 1&2 multiple times now and feel as if I should not take it again as I'm starting to see repeat questions. These are the last few scores on my last few CATS.

MGMAT Free CAT-640 Q42/V35 on 2/2/13
GMAT Prep 1- 570 Q38/V30 on 3/16/13
GMAT Prep 2- 700 Q48/V38 on 3/23/13
GMAT Prep 1- 720 Q49/V40 on 4/2/13

Do you think downloading the additional GMAT Prep question pack #1 is a good idea ? I've completed all 90 free questions that come with GMAT Prep software and all of the questions in OG 13. I also have reviewed MGMAT quant guides and the CR power score book. I would like to focus on keeping my verbal score in the high 30's and feel as if I have become pretty strong in SC and CR. Overall I'm aiming for a 650+. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

There are still a few more 3rd-party practice tests remaining. See an outline of all 60 emails here: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide-outline

That said, the additional question pack is a great idea since these are official questions. You might also consider purchasing the paper tests (https://www.mba.com/store/store-catalog/ ... ests.aspx?)

Cheers,

thank you Brent. I am going to purchase the additional question pack and continue to study the practice exams that I've taken in the past month. I've heard its best to stick with official questions in the last week of prep. Is this theory true ?

I don't think that's necessarily true.
In your last week, you should have covered all of the concepts and this is an opportunity to practice your test-taking skills (timing, stress management, endurance, etc.). For these purposes, the 3rd-party tests are sufficient.

That said, official questions are always the best. It comes down to whether or not you want to spend a few extra bucks.

Cheers,
Brent
