Re-Application Question

by MBA2010-2012 » Sat Sep 05, 2009 5:01 am
Hi Lisa,

I'm planning on reapplying to a school which rejected me last year. I applied to this school in Round 3 and my rejection came in April. The school has indicated that re-applicants must complete a new application which includes preparing new essays. I compared the essays relative to last year and two are spin-offs of last year's essays while the third is new.

For the purposes of Essay 1 (the goals essay), can I change my career goals and the path I see myself pursing post graduation (these have in fact changed) or do I need to stick with the same goals I presented last year? I don't want to appear as if I don't know what I want to do but at the same time I don't want to appear as if I didn't put any time into the application essays?

Thanks!

Dear MBA2010-2012,

You want to submit a new set of essays per the instructions, and if your goals and rationale have changed, then you want to write about your new goals. I think it is ok to incorporate a statement like, "Over the last year, I have given much thought to my future..." and then get into your new goals. You should also give more background in the essay on why these are your goals, how you arrived at them, why you want to pursue them, how the MBA is the first step to achieve them, etc.

Good luck,
Lisa
