Retaking the Gmat - Need Help

by Bubsy » Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:37 am
Hey Guys,

It's been a while since I had given my gmat...3.5 yrs to be exact. I did not do that well the last time around...I messed up badly in verbal even though English is my native language... my quant was ok but it needs improvement ...So I have a lot of material but do not know where to start from ... need to up my score by 200 points

This is a list of the GMAT material I have:

OG - 12, 11 & 10
Verbal Review - 1st & 2nd Edition
Quant Review - 1st & 2nd Edition

MGMAT - All the 8 guides (Latest edition)

I need to get my basics right in Verbal ... literally start from scratch ... apart from this is there anything else I should be looking at or doing???
I plan on giving my Gmat in the first week of June & plan on studying on the week days for 2 hrs & weekends for 4 - 5 hrs as I am currently working.
Thanks

I would create a detailed study plan with what you plan to accomplish each day. Once you have gone through some of the MGMAT books, then you should start to work in the official guides. Take the MGMAT tests throughout your preparation period and save the two GMATPrep tests for the end.

Also, keep a detailed log of any questions that you get wrong. Mark if it was a concept error or a careless error. Be sure to go back to these questions and review them and make sure that you don't make the same mistakes.

Another thing, when you are studying on the weekends, don't try to learn too much in one day. There is only so much that your brain is going to retain in a 4-5 hr study period.

I think you are good for quant. The MGMAT books are very good. The other book I used for verbal was the Powerscore Critical Reasoning Bible. It also helped me with the reading comprehension section. You might want to look into that book.
