GMAT 690 debrief

by Happy Badger » Mon Dec 21, 2009 10:53 am
Hi,

Today was D-day.

I scored a 690 (44Q, 40V), placing me at the 88th percentile.

I have prepared for the GMAT for about three months, parallell to taking MBA classes as a visiting scholar. I started off with the official GMAT review from GMAC, then moved on to Kaplan´s math workbook and Kaplan´s GMAT Advanced.

I took my first GMAT Prep in mid October and got a 680 (45Q, 39V). Feeling pretty confident, I stopped studying for a while, knowing that my GMAT exam was scheduled for Dec. 21 (today). Starting up again, I took a bunch of Kaplan CATs. The scores I got were so depressing, I really didn´t know what to do. (On Kaplans CATs I consistently scored around 610).

I took my second GMAT Prep on Friday and got a 700 (48Q, 38V). I was pretty schocked! After scoring 610s on Kaplan´s CATs, I really thought that was my actual level.

My official score was right in the middle of my scores on the GMAT Preps, so I suppose they are fairly accurate. The Kaplan tests are, however, bullshit! They put me down so much that I almost got depressed! Kaplan - Get your scoring algorithm straight!!!!

In conclusion I am pretty satisfied with my score, even though I didn´t break the magic 700.

Thanks,

Bucky

Hey , Congratulations !..

I know Kaplan are bit skewed . Did you use 2008 CD -ROM version ? ..Heard that this year they have some online CATs which ( they claim ofcourse ) give a lot better prediction than past .

Now you have beaten this beast , can you enlighten how you tackled verbal CR or RC ? ..

Did you use Manhattan GMAT CAT anytime ?

Looking forward to your reply
