Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792) was unprecedented in its firsthand accounts of the indignities suffered by women and because it was eloquent and passionate in exposing and criticizing these indignities.

A. and because it was eloquent and passionate in exposing and criticizing
B. and in that it was eloquent and passionate when exposing and criticizing
C. as well as the eloquence and passion it had in exposing and criticizing
D. and in the eloquence and passion with which it exposed and criticized
E. but also its eloquent and passionate exposure and criticism of

OA D . Please help me rule out wrong options .

it seems that Gmat stops to test other issues then ||-ism
D is right on that grounds
i read the sentence in the way:
vindication was unprecedented in X and in Y, where X and Y must be ||.
A)vindication was unprecedented in accounts and because... not ||
B)vindication was unprecedented in accounts and in that...the same as in A
C)i think that it is second best answer, but it omits in before as well so if better version exists it is wrong
E)but also is wrong here.

Only answer choice D offers the needed parallelism:

...unprecedented in its firsthand accounts (in + noun)...and in the eloquence and passion...(in + noun).

The correct answer is D.

Hi GMATGURUNY,

I had one doubt i.e in GMAT is the usage of "and" and "because" together correct???????

It can absolutely be correct if it makes the sentence parallel:

"I enjoy spending time at the beach because I can swim during the day and listen to the sounds of the ocean at night"

OR

"I enjoy spending time at the beach because I can swim during the day and because I can listen to the sounds of the ocean at night"

In the first sentence, the phrase "because I can..." implicitly applies to both "swim..." and "listen..." so we did not have to repeat it. It does not mean, however, that we CANNOT repeat the phrase - it just tends to be wordier than the first example. If ever forced to decide, concision would win with the first.

Hi Dear instructorsï¼ŒI want to confirm the choice C. Can you use C to understand the sentence as below?

Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792) was unprecedented in its firsthand accounts of the indignities suffered by women as well as (in its firsthand accounts of) the eloquence and passion it had in exposing and criticizing?
