Yes, generally, that's true - the more you write, the better. However, you won't receive a higher score simply because your essay is longer - the real reason to make your essay longer is that adding a sentence or two per paragraph will likely strengthen your argument and deepen your analysis of the topic.
A good rule of thumb is to aim for 5 paragraphs of 4-5 sentences each.
