A machine in a factory uses between 150 and 220 kilowatt-hours of electricity, inclusive, to produce two widgets.What is the maximum number of widgets the machine could produce using 3,450 kilowatt-hours of electricity?

a) 46
b) 30
c) 23
d) 16
e) 15

Please assist with above problem.

Hi alanforde800Maximus,

We're given a 'range' of electricity that is needed to produce 2 widgets. To MAXIMIZE the number of widgets that could be produced using a fixed amount of electricity, we would need to consider the smallest amount of electricity from that range.

If we could produce 2 widgets with just 150 kw-hrs of electricity... then with 3450 kw-hours, we could produce...

3450/150 =
345/15 =
69/3 =
23 pairs of widgets = (23)(2) = 46 widgets

Final Answer: A

Hi Rich,
If we use 150 per 2 widgets it means that we consume 75 per widget.

So final answer should be 46.

Or we can say that there is 23 clusters of 150HP in 3450. Each cluster produces 2 widgets. it means 46 total widgets.

Do I miss anything?
