RC and CR tips- Exam 1 month away

by nav88 » Tue May 21, 2013 2:59 pm
Hello,

I prepared a plan according to which i will devote last 3 weeks exclusively to verbal.I am done with Sentence correction. My question is whether this is the right strategy ? I have read several of Ron's posts in which he clearly mentions that too much focus on RC and CR may deteriorate your accuracy. Even i read the scientific explanation offered by him :)

I know the Questions types both in RC and in CR. Also i am well aware of the traps in both sections.

So Would anyone suggest the right way ahead.

PS: i know these sections involve more of the logical thinking aspect and less of any strategy or any formulation ( as in patterns). So why cant one improve in these areas in 1 month?

Hey -- good questions.

A few thoughts:

1. As Admiral Kirk referred to his good friend Mr Spock -- one must always believe in 'possibilities'. Improvement in CR/RC is hard -- but it's SOOO worth it if you can do it.

2. Before just deciding "I'm done on SC and ready for CR/RC" -- how do you know that? Do you have the relative performance data to know that you've hit your 'upside limit' on SC and that there's still a lot of 'improvement room' on CR/RC?

I'm not going to give you any specific tips on CR/RC (although I am happy to do so if you are interested.) But, I will provide these two links that help you land the plane over the last few weeks:

https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ew-part-2/

Lastly (I'll go against what I just typed) -- the most important thing on CR/RC is to find that reading pace/speed that allows you to get what you need in as efficient and comprehensive a way as possible.) The easy gut check is 'can I answer a main idea question in RC without having to read the passage more than once.' If so, you are close to the right speed -- if not, need to adjust the gas pedal!

Good luck.
