I cant think of an easier way (probably there is one) other than to convert each to improper fraction and then find LCM and simplify

I get 20 7/12

I am coming up with 19 5/18

(17 9/12) - (16 5/12) + (32 2/12) = 14 2/9 + x

33 6/12 = 14 2/9 + x

(33 6/12) - (14 2/9) = x

(33 18/36) - (14 8/36) = x

19 10/36

19 5/18

17 + (3/4) - 16 - (5/12) + 32 + (1/6) = 14 + (2/9) + ?
(17 - 16 + 32 - 14) + (3/4 - 5/12 + 1/6 -2/9) = ?

? = 19 + (9/12 - 5/12 + 2/12 - 2/9)
? = 19 + (6/12 - 2/9)
? = 19 + (9/18 - 4/18)
? = 19 + (5/18)

Choose D.

i think it can be done quicker done 4 mins if you look at the big numbers first.....for a start, if i was in a hurry (which i am guessing we all be on exam day!!!) i would look at the large numbers first eg 17-16+32 = 33 so look at the fractions you see 3/4 - 5/12 + 1/6 which is 9/12 - 5/12 + 2/12 = 6/12 i.e 1/2 so 33 1/2 is left hand side.

so we have 33 1/2 = 14 2/9 + x so immediately change the 1/2 on the lefthand side to 9/18 and the 2/9 on the right hand side to 4/18 so we have 33 9/18 = 14 4/18 + x

so 33 - 14 is 19 and 9/18 - 4/18 is 5/18 so

19 5/18 = x

answer D

should be able to do it under 2 mins.......well that's the plan!
