Calculus for management?!? Online calculus?

by skah-uh » Tue Jun 22, 2010 8:24 am
I'm in the process of building up the quantitative side of my transcript. I've taken microecon and elementary statistics w/ probability and received As in both. I intend to apply to schools R1 and R2 of this coming fall for admission in 2011. I'm considering taking calculus and/or accounting in the fall, as I'm aiming for top schools and don't want to leave any room for doubt about my quantitative ability.

My question is this: Is a course titled, "Calculus for Management and Social Science" sufficient? Or should I only consider a more traditional course, such as "Calculus I". The former is all that's available at the local community college, but I suppose I could try to find a suitable online course.

Thanks for your advice!

Skah-uh,

Thanks for your note. I am pleased that you are building an alternate transcript with business foundation courses such as economics and statistics. As long as you are getting A's, this is a great way to demonstrate your ability to handle the analytical coursework in business school.

Ideally you would take a course titled "Calculus 1" since this the traditional course. I suspect that Calculus for Management and Social Science is more of an applied course. Of course, you might consider viewing the syllabus of both options to see how similar or different they are. If Calculus for Management is quite similar to a regular calculus course, then feel free to take it. Just be sure to get an A in this course.

Sincerely,
