I have a situation. I have been on my job about two years with the same supervisor. (First job since college) My job does not look too highly on people leaving to go get there mba. On my job, the org structures is such that Senior Examiners (10 years exp. or more) are my direct reports and write all of my feedback forms. Can I have them write a letter and explain why in the optional essay? Will this be looked at unfavorably?

Schools really like recommendations from current supervisors, but also understand that you do not always want to ask for fear of losing your job. I think recommendations from subordinates, co-workers, clients and/or vendors are always a nice alternative as they can speak to you in a professional capacity. If there is a Senior Examiner you trust to write you a strong rec, then that is probably a great idea. Regardless, you do want to note in an optional essay or additional information section why your current supervisor is not one of your recommenders.
