Recent technological improvements in electronic mail (E-mail) will resolve existing corporate communication problems. Vast quantities of information about products, services, and market transactions as well as most basic business communications, can be electronically exchanged, quickly and at a relatively low cost.
Explain how logically persuasive you find this argument. In discussing your viewpoint, analyze the argument's line of reasoning and its user of evidence. Also explain what, if anything, would make the argument more valid and convincing or help to better evaluate its conclusion.
My essay:
The author states that existing corporate communication problems can be resolved by technological advancements in E-mail. A large amount of information can be exchanged quickly and at a lower cost through email. This statement can be taken apart by saying firstly, that existing corporate communication problems may go out of scope of email. Certain relationship-building industries require face-to-face communication. Secondly, relying on email for exchange of information may lead to high dependency on one software itself. In case of any breakdown in the email system, corporations may find themselves handicapped.Thirdly, the author says that information can be exchanged quickly and at lower cost. This may not be true in case the price of a technologically improved email system is very high.Viz-a-viz the cost of other methods to exchange information, email may not prove to be of a 'lower cost'.
Firstly, there are some industries where interpersonal relations with clients are part of existing corporate communications problems. In these industries, emails cannot be exchanged to communicate. For instance, a real estate agent needs to establish trust and comfort with his or her client in order to help them select a desired property. The agent will also need to understand the requirements and personality of a client in order to be able to pick an appropriate residential or work property. Real estates agencies often find themselves losing a client due to lack of face-to-face communication with an assigned agent. In such cases, email exchange cannot come to the rescue.
Secondly, relying on email for information exchange may lead to a gridlock situation in case of a breakdown in the email system. It is likely for electronically controlled software to breakdown. Corporations which rely heavily on email to exchange information may find themselves in a handicapped situation at such times. Instead, corporation could equip themselves by creating a bank of communication tools which can be used from time to time to communicate.
Thirdly, the author has stated that information exchange via email can be done in less time and at a relatively lower cost. This may not be true depending on the price of the advanced email software. A corporation may buy a technologically advanced email software for a very high price. When compared with the cost of using traditional of less advanced methods for information exchange at the corporation, this high price may not prove to be "relatively lower". It is, therefore, important to compare the price of the advanced email viz-a-viz the existing cost of information exchange. Without the comparison, we cannot conclude that the cost of information exchange via advanced email will cost lower.
In conclusion, the corporations could resolve existing communication problems by firstly identifying the communication problems in their respective industries and address them depending on their nature. Personal communication problems need to be resolved by giving more face time to by building a better relationship with the client. Secondly, corporations could create a bank of communication tools such as telephone, direct mail, etc to transfer different information in various ways without extreme reliance on simply one advanced email software. Thirdly, corporations need to compare existing cost of information exchange and the cost of the advanced email software in order the cost-effectiveness of the advanced software.
