Queens/Ivey OR alberta

Hi ,

If anyone has tried or been accepted in Queens or Ivey BS then pls let me know the basic GMAT of being accepted.

Has anyone heard about alberta MBA ? Is it good.

Jawad, i think i am also on the same boat as you, are you looking for fall 2009 intake ?

I am from pakistan but rite now in canada for job related matters. Do you have any news about MCGill mba and is mcgill on your list ?

Mcgill is 2-years program and thus does not fit my list.. what abt you.. have u done some research on which schools are best to go with.. Queens and ivey are too exp .

Are you PR ... How is job scenario there.

hello Jawad+webking82,

I am also attempting the 2009 intake. My list has
- Ivey
- McGill
- Queens
- Rotman

I still have to appear in the gmat (31-3) but know that would not be able to score that high (may be from 550-600).

Ivey is good as their teaching method is all case based. I like (and have tested this method in Concordia) this way of learning.

Mcgill has good name ... thats all.

Queens has very strong reputation + First tier program. Based on my CV , they have already accepted me in their 1 year accelerated MBA that is conducted through vdo conferencing around canada (thats why i am a bit skeptical about this program)

Rotman has very strong Finance prog but its in 2 years.

All of these schools are good .

fyi I am in motnreal studying at concordia.

Hello,

Let me add my two cents here and see if I can help you guys.

I am an international student from India and have secured admit to may 2009 intake at Ivey. But unfortunately, due to lack of finances I had to defer my admit by one year...

I had applied to Queen's and was thinking of applying to Sauder as well. But there were a few points that I came across, which made me shift my alliance to Ivey :P

1. The Case Study method:: This is the unique point in Ivey's case. Ivey is only next to Harvard in terms of the number of case studies they make and they are number 1 in terms of numbers of case studies produced with Asian focus.

2. The strong alumni: Ivey arguable has the strongest alumni base amongst all Canadian schools. 1 out of every 3 people who have graduated from Ivey hold the rank of a CEO, CIO, CTO, President or Senior VP ranks

3. Brand recognition: Amongst all other Canadian schools, Ivey has the strongest brand recognition. This may be untrue but this was something which I chanced upon as per my research. Those of you who are in Canada would know better but yes, I do know that once u say u are from Ivey, people know you are inteligent and you have what it takes to succeed in the corporate world.

4. Great for consulting: for those of you who intend to get into the field of consulting or strategy, there probably is no better choice than Ivey (apart from Harvard, Wharton and Stanford).

5. Ivey is also called as the "Harvard of the North" :twisted:

I hope I have been able to satisfy some nerves here. in case anyone has any questions, please shoot. I'll try answering them as best as possible.

Age Limit::: Older Applicant

Hi,

I would like to have the opinion of MBA aspirants or already admitted ppl at Ivey,Queens, Rotman about how these Bschool treat lil older candidate.
I am 36+ and looking to get into MBA now.
As for why Canada, they have 1 yr program and I might be moving to Canada on PR around early next year...

Target area of work: Consulting few years or Entreprenuer ( not sure about this one- as I dont know much about Canada but would love to).
Or even if I can get into MNCs to begin with but in Energy Sector.

Just would like to have your honest opinion. One of the reason for MBA at this stage tired of IT and wanna switch career.
