Lawyers in MBA

Dear Satecy,

I wonder how ex-lawyers are perceived in an MBA and post-MBA world. Do admissions offices give any good credit to legal experience or is this considered as broadly irrelevant to business? Any good chances of employment after MBA?

I am particularly interested in your views since I am a foreign trained lawyer, i.e. not licensed to practice law in the US, who would like to quit law and do an MBA.

Dear zakatala,

Legal experience is viewed like any other professional experience--have you progressed in your tenure? shown leadership potential? shown teamwork skills? The main question you must answer in your application is why you want to get the MBA and how you will leverage your legal experience in your post-MBA career. Similar to anyone making a significant career change, you must demonstrate your logical thought process to leave law and pursue business in your essays.
