my take E on this, experts please suggest

For this type of problem, always try to pick some numbers on both sides of the asking limit (here 8) and check whether they satisfy both the statements or not.

For example, consider the following two cases,
  • c = 9 ---> d = 10 and e = 5 ---> (c + d + e) = 24 and d < 12 ---> c = 9 > 8 ---> YES
    c = 7 ---> d = 11 and e = 6 ---> (c + d + e) = 24 and d < 12 ---> c = 7 < 8 ---> NO
So, both statements together is also not sufficient.

The correct answer is E.
